2017 ny bok: Status Quo?

Mattsson, M. (2017). Status Quo?

http://www.daidalos.se/status-quo-br-en-ber%C3%A4ttelse-om-ockupation,-motst%C3%A5nd-och-solidaritet-i-palestina-och-israel.htm

2012: pracnetwork

International Network for Practicum Research and Practice

This is a call for expressions of interest in becoming involved in an International Network for Practicum Research and Practice focusing on the practicum in teacher education as a participatory and empowering practice. We propose to also introduce special interest groups (SIGs) at international research conferences. Specifically our goals are to highlight, research, celebrate and make sense of the role of the practicum and professional practice in teacher education through the introduction of an international network that focuses on the ‘practicum turn in teacher education’.

It appears that there is no international network for teacher educators or researchers who focus on learning in the practicum (professional experience, field experience, clinical practice, school placements…) in teacher education. By ‘teacher educators’ we refer to teachers in schools as well as teachers in universities/colleges of teacher education etc. Nor is there an agreed and mutually understood vocabulary in teacher education (e.g. teacher students, student teachers, preservice (pre-service) teachers, teacher candidates, students…are used interchangeably, as are supervisors, mentors, coordinators, host teachers, associate teachers…).

Please indicate by email to Doreen Rorrison (Charles Sturt University, Australia) drorrison@csu.edu.au  if you would like to be involved in the development of this project. We plan to extend our current international collaboration through the Pedagogy, Education and Praxis (PEP) group and introduce the idea in a seminar at the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE) conference in December 2012 and at the European Educational Research Association (EERA) conference in September 2012. We have already broached the idea with the Nordic Educational Research Association (NERA).

Phronesis as Professional Knowledge
Practical Wisdom in the Professions  Elizabeth Anne Kinsella and Allan Pitman (Eds.)

Phronesis is the Aristotelian notion of practical wisdom. In this collected series, phronesis is explored as an alternate way of considering professional knowledge. In the present context dominated by technical rationalities and instrumentalist approaches, a re-examination of the concept of phronesis offers a fundamental re-visioning of the educational aims in professional schools and continuing professional education programs. This book originated from a conversation amongst an interdisciplinary group of scholars from education, health, philosophy, and sociology, who share concerns that something of fundamental importance - of moral significance – is missing from the vision of what it means to be a professional. The contributors consider the ways in which phronesis offers a generative possibility for reconsidering the professional knowledge of practitioners. The question at the centre of this inquiry is: “If we take phronesis seriously as an organising framework for professional knowledge, what are the implications for professional education and practice?” A multiplicity of understandings emerge as to what is meant by phronesis and how it might be reinterpreted, understood, applied, and extended in a world radically different to that of the progenitor of the term, Aristotle. For those concerned with professional life this is a conversation not to be missed.

A Practicum Turn in Teacher Education

Challenges to practicum! The authors have explored professional practice knowledge and the ways practicum is dealt with in teacher education. They report from Research and Development projects based on collaboration between universities and school communities. Empirical studies have been carried out in Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. C ommunication about practicum is reframed. P reservice teachers’ experiences during practicum serve as a point of departure for improving teacher education.

The book is a must for everyone committed to quality in initial teacher education, including preservice teachers, school leaders and local supervisors.

“Altogether, the book makes a contribution, not only to our understanding of the design and enactment of a more liberatory practicum curriculum, but also interrupts conventional discourse about the provision of professional learning more broadly. It acts to open up our thinking and provide the spaces to think differently.”

Foreword by

Honorary Professor Susan Groundwater-Smith

Faculty of Education and Social Work

The University of Sydney, Australia

This volume explores new and different ways to think about the construction and evaluation of the practicum that students encounter. Contributors ask the reader to consider the assumptions that the practicum is based on, question these assumptions and strive to find new and better ways to contribute to the autonomy, professionalism, and moral development of emerging teachers. The focus is clearly on creating conversational and learning spaces for students that encourage them to think explicitly about theory  and its application to practice and vice versa.

The book not only challenges our thinking but also provides rich examples of research and evaluation in this area, which help us to hear the voices of those involved in the practicum in fresh and insightful ways.”
